Casey is hardly a newcomer to the government classroom, having spent the last 20 years teaching on contract for the U.S. Navy, Marines, and Air Force.

She comes to her classes as a practitioner rather than as a traditional academic. A graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in Broadcast Communications, Casey did her first instructing for Management Skills Associates while serving as a consumer reporter in Los Angeles radio. Drawing on her successful background in reporting, writing, and public speaking, she accepted several invitations to conduct communication workshops for Navy personnel in Southern California.  Eventually she elected to switch careers, becoming a full time contract-trainer in the field of interpersonal communication in the government workplace.

Now a seasoned instructor and sole owner of MSA, Casey is a specialist in helping adult students sharpen their skills in writing and editing, as well as in the preparation of professional presentations. She works most frequently with the Navy, training both military and civilian personnel in such subjects as Technical Writing, Presentation Skills, and Making Meetings Work. Her teaching assignments have taken her to many parts of the continental United States, to Hawaii, and to Japan.

Outside her workshop duties, Casey speaks before a variety of civic, social, and church groups, teaches classes in local culture and history for the Solvang Elderhostel, and has become a specialist in the life and work of the Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen. Her camera goes with her everywhere, and she uses her own slides to illustrate her lectures and presentations.

She writes and records freelance radio commercials, being recognized locally as the voice of the Santa Ynez Valley Hospital. Her chief relaxation is in music, especially classics and jazz, and as a member of the Berkshire Choral Festival has traveled to England and Austria to sing a variety of great choral works in some of Europe’s most beautiful cathedrals. Casey makes her home in Solvang, drives to Santa Barbara when she needs to catch a plane, and says the 60-mile round trip is a small price to pay for the privilege of living in the Santa Ynez Valley.

She plays a lousy game of tennis, and has been known to drive a golf ball as far as 20 yards.
