MANAGEMENT SKILLS ASSOCIATES WORKSHOP TITLE: GRAMMAR BRUSH-UP FOR WRITERS LENGTH AND SIZE: Two days - Maximum 25 students INSTRUCTOR: Carolyn (Casey) Reynolds COURSE OBJECTIVES: For business and technical writers, grammar glitches just seem to come with the territory. This workshop can do wonders for uneasy writers who know they make occasional errors in grammar, punctuation, or usage – errors that detract from content and, in some cases, damage credibility. True, current word processing aids may catch and correct most mechanical errors. But they can’t detect the wrong choice or use of a word. And they won’t do much to build either the skills or the confidence of the writer for whom many of the rules are long forgotten. Classroom exercises focus on the most common hazards in business and technical writing: correct use of tense, agreement between subject and verb, problems with possessives, run-on sentences, use of the “series” comma, and a variety of other small but nagging problems that can be resolved with a little guided practice. Workshop materials include a handbook of grammar refreshers that will remain
a valuable desktop tool for the working writer. Note: All rules of usage comply with the current Government Printing |
