MANAGEMENT SKILLS ASSOCIATES WORKSHOP TITLE: PRESENTATION SKILLS LENGTH AND SIZE: Two days – Maximum 16 students INSTRUCTOR: Carolyn (Casey) Reynolds COURSE CONTENT: This workshop is for anyone who must communicate verbally in front of a group – from formal presentations, to informal briefings, to orientation lectures. The class will also be valuable to those who are responsible for conducting on-the-job training, running a meeting, or serving as group facilitators. Class content is designed to help build skills and sharply reduce common anxiety by showing how to take charge of the major elements in a public speaking situation. These include voice, gestures, body language, visual aids, equipment, and the presentation environment, itself. Included in the classroom work will be suggestions on how to hold audience attention, respond to questions, deal with special needs and personalities. And – how to deal with the inevitable advance attack of “briefer’s butterflies.” The class will also present useful tips for organizing subject matter and putting the presentation together. Participants will learn various approaches to presenting information geared to the specific audience and the intended objective. Students will critique each other in making short presentations throughout the first day, based on their learning in the class. On the second day, each student will give a final planned presentation, with the instructor and classmates offering evaluations, suggestions, and encouragement for successful use of these skills in real-time speaking assignments. |
